المعنى واضح باللغة العربية غير أن الاختلاف في النطق فقط، حقا الذهب يغير المذهب، أي بمعنى أن المادة قد تؤدي بالإنسان الى تغيير مبادئه وربما دينه، يضرب المثل في مواقف كثيرة خاصة مواقف الحاجة والعجز إذ كثيرا ما يقال هذا المثل عندما يتحدث أحدهم باستحالة الحصول أو انشاء ذاك الشيء فيرد الآخر بنص المثل الذهب يغير المذهب.
